Hello I'm Nokomis, I am the mother of an 11 yr. old girl who is autistic, she's high functioning and A has just recently been tested for Autism. I am really looking forward to meeting women and others who can help me learn more about the ASD/ASPIE and other relative effects concerning girls. I've always known A has been different and kept pushing for diagnosis. Finally someone has heard me, but it took me doing my own research before this happened. No one even hinted that A could be a HFA/ASPIE or an autistic girl. Not enough awareness in the pedi's office or Family doc's here. I found this wonderful site on FB! I so look forward to helping my daughter through educating myself because I cannot afford for them to wait on me to ask the right question! She has went long enough without help and services because she was only classified as a girl with ADHD.

Hi Nokomis

Welcome to the forum  Smile

Hope you find lots of useful help and tips on here.  We do have a couple of females on the spectrum in here as well as parents of girls with a diagnosis or in the process of assessment.

My youngest son has a diagnosis (he is now 17) and I have a few other relatives on the spectrum, two of them girls, one aged 21 and the other 5.

Do let us know if you have any specific questions or want to chat about anything in particular.

Hi Nokomis,

Welcome to the community! Thanks for introducing yourself and telling us about your daughter. We have a number of members with daughters with autism here, as well as adult women on the spectrum, so hopefully you'll find it helpful. As Josie said, feel free to start and respond to any discussions you find interesting.
