Accessing financial help
Caring for a child with autism may have an impact on your finances by:
- reducing your income, for example if you are unable to work
- increasing your living expenses, for example travel costs
There are several benefits that you may be able to claim:
You may be entitled to claim one or more of these benefits. Entitlement to some benefits, such as DLA, are based on the needs of your child. Others, such as tax credits, are means tested. The eligibility criteria for each benefit are explained in the DFES Early Support materials booklet on Financial Help which is available in a range of languages from the DCFS website.
