Hi Star
I have been a single parent for about 7 years since my divorce. Three children, youngest Tom (Aspergers) almost 14, daughter Jennifer 15 and another son Richard going on 19 in the RAF.
I am with you on the "no footie" or any other boring sport (golf, olympics, athletics and the list goes on and on - how did I cope with that for 25 years). Life might be hard but us girls are made of tough stuff. Your another CC arent you? Think I saw your name on the list. Great site this eh! Talk later.

hello star, i've only been a single dad for just over 3 months now. i have a 15 yr old daughter , but its my 13 yr old son with aspergers who im trying to get into school at the moment, mainstream couldnt cope with him. my house has always been sport free apart from the odd weekend of F1, and to be honest i only use that as an exuse for a bit of piece and quiet every now and then , i dont really know anything about it.

Hi emma, my name is Karen and I have just joined up as well. I have a son, lewis who is 11, and my daughter Katie is 8. Katie has autism. No one child with autism is the same. Katie has difficulties with communication, in both understanding what is being said to her and with her trying to make herslef understood by others. She is quite social, but does not like surprises, like someone speaking to her unexpectedly, and her imagination is excellent when she is focuing on something she wants to play with. She tends to express her feelings through drawings.
I have been separated for three years now, and it is difficult on you own. Other people try to understand, but it is so difficult to express how autism effects the whole family and how best to help your child.

Hi Karen
Welcome to the group. Hope to hear more about you and your children over the coming days and weeks. Feel free to ask any questions or indeed offer any strategies you think might help the other members.
