Hi Dax,
Welcome to the forum. Congratulations to your son for getting to grammar school. I think a lot of other parents here have (had) similar battles with school.

Hi Julie
Welcome to the forum. You will probably find the thread on Education quite informative. The quest for understanding from the educational community seems to be a common difficulty when it comes to children on the spectrum and indeed with other learning issues.
My son is now 14 and in mainstream High School (he was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome when he was about 7).
Hope to hear more from you and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Hi Dax
Welcome to the forum, I am mum to 2 boys (a 4 year old with ASD & a 9 month old). My sons draft statement has just been issued so I am very much at the beginning of the education journey!
I look forward to sharing experiences with you.

Hi. yesturday my son went to the school book fair and came home with a spongebob book and he wrote a note for me it s said To Mum. I hope you enjoy this book, Love From p ! actaully every now and then he says "I love you mum" and he likes a kiss and a hug,so despite when he does say "I hate you" i know he does not i hope mean that. I do know he thinks love is like and hate and dislike are the same meanings, though so when he is angry he hates me. He is 9 with high functioning ASD .so all the battles are so worth it when they do show you affection.

Hi Lesley
That's so sweet, it means so much when our kids do these things that we know are harder for them to do/say.

Hi Lesley
It is lovely when they do things like that .. I usually just get' naughty mummy' when my youngest is angry with me,I get the 'I hate yous' from my 'typical 'children - I usually reply with I am not fond of you either ... which really makes they upset - makes me smile :)

Hello Everyone
Both my children have Autistic Spectrum Disorder and statements of SEN. I'm very proud of my son who despite a very difficult start to school life, (School had no idea how to manage him and we had constant battles with them!) has just started Grammar School! My Daughter is 9yrs old, at a Special School and has just started to show some affection towards us (not very gentle hugs but hugs none the less!)
I'm looking forward to sharing the ups and downs of Parenting a child with ASD.
