Just over 3 months old..... whaddya think?

Hi everyone, me again! ; )

Earlier this month our shiny new community turned 3 months old. We're really doing great, we have about 550 members believe it or not! We've started 476 discussion topis, and there have been 1671 posts!  So basically, we've been doing a lot of talking in the last 3 months.

Hopefully this means you've all be making your way around and you may have spotted some areas for improvement, or you might just have some useful feedback to provide.

If you have a moment (and if you can remember spotting anything) would you let me know if there's anything you'd like to say about the way the community works?

Is there anything you'd like to see added? Removed? Changed?

Do you have an idea for something you'd like to do, but maybe have been too shy to mention just yet?

Please leave your comments below or you send me an email if you'd like to mention something of a private nature.

I'm pretty much always noting down ideas and making suggestions to TreeHouse so if you don't think of anything right now, feel welcome to leave a comment here at any time, or start a new discussion when you're ready.

Thanks and I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Elena

Hi,

I've just joined after watching "The Autistic Me" on BBC3 and going to bbc.co.uk/actionline, and already I think it's brilliant! The guidelines and how to use sections are all I've seen so far, and they're excellent - clear, concise, and make absolute sense. The only build I can think of is the one and only typo on line 1 of the last paragraph on Feedback - "We'd like you..." should be "We'd like your...".

Bri

Wow, thank you for giving us your comments Brian. It's useful to know about the instructions specifically, as you're new on the scene and have a fresh pair of eyes. : )

I must be being thick because I can't find which page you were talking about with the typo. Would you kindly give me a link? I would love to correct it ASAP. The one & only thing I don't like about posting comments is that I can't do aspell check. So if ever you see any others, do feel welcome to point them out!

Hi, I'm keen to help improve this site (well worth it), so here's a few more things I've spotted -

1) The auto email re postings etc. on line 1 has "Your subscription on Treehouse.org.uk" - it needs to be "...on www.treehouse.org.uk".

2) The menu at the foot of the Introductions forum shows 7 pages, plus next and last. When you click on last you get an empty page - Page 4 is actually the last page. Don't know if other forums are like this as well.

3) Listing items chronologically is the norm but users need to be able to get to the most recent posting quickly, so usually have page 1-n, next and last links at the top as well as the bottom.

Hope this helps!

Wow, Bri - thanks so much! You don't know how much I appreciate you lending a hand. Since we're such a young community, we really need this type of feedback. : )

I am just shooting off so will have to respond more in-depth next week, probably on Wednesday as I'm not around Monday or Tuesday much.

In the meantime, I wonder what browser you are using? I was unable to replicate the error in the Introductions area as you described (with regard to clicking "last"). I'm using Firefox 3.0.13

Have a good weekend, and cheers once again!

Hi Brian, sorry for the delay in coming back to you. Has been a hectic few days. : )

I'll just copy and paste each of your suggestions below & respond to each...

1) The auto email re postings etc. on line 1 has "Your subscription on Treehouse.org.uk" - it needs to be "...on www.treehouse.org.uk".

I think we're ok with this as it's referencing the name of the website - Treehouse.org.uk - and doesn't need to be clicked on (the important thing is that the links to view new updates are working).

One thing I have noticed is that I often accidentally click the "Direct unsubscribe" link because it's situated so close to the primary link. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

2) The menu at the foot of the Introductions forum shows 7 pages, plus
next and last. When you click on last you get an empty page - Page 4 is
actually the last page. Don't know if other forums are like this as
well.

Thanks for pointing this out - turns out it has been spotted previously and reported to the Support team who look after this website. Well spotted!

3) Listing items chronologically is the norm but users need to be
able to get to the most recent posting quickly, so usually have page
1-n, next and last links at the top as well as the bottom.

You're absolutely right that some kind of pagination would be helpful at the top of the page also, as you described. Right now the pagination shows only beneath the first post of a discussion, and on the bottom of the pages. I would love it if at some point we could see this at the top and bottom of every discussion thread with some "quicklinks" on the main index page of discussions - so by this I mean that beside each discussion title there would be, for example, page "1, 2, 3, 4, 5" or  "1...8,9,10" (where you click the number to visit that page).

In the meantime what will help is the notifications members see upon logging back into the community. You can click "1 new" or "2 new", etc., in order to jump to the newest posts - however this is broken so once it's
fixed we should be all up to speed.

Thanks again for your help! Much appreciated. : )
