SCOTLAND: Glasgow West Carers Centre
This carers centre runs a group specifically for parents/carers of
those on the Spectrum. They have activities throughout the year with
weekly carers meetings with guest speakers covering a wide gamit of
subjects pertaining to the support of those on the spectrum.

I am asking for a friend, does anyone know of any support groups in West Kent/East Sussex for families of severely autistic children. She is finding it hard to contact people in her situation - her son is non-verbal and mostly non-responsive to contact with other people. Sorry if my terminology is a bit 'clumsy' - I'm not quite sure how to explain it better.
Thanks

Hi Nicky! I had a possibly helpful comment on Facebook from Isobel. She said:
"have you asked www.treating autism.co.uk they run local support groups
around the country for biomed. i run the battersea one but their are
many parents who just come for the chat who do not do biomed or
intervention as their diagnosis is quite recent."

HI NICKY,
I KNOW OF A LOT OF FAMILIES IN HAMPSHIRE WITH SEVERELY AUTISTIC CHILDREN, ALTHOUGH, I APPRICIATE THAT THEY ARE NOT BASED IN SUSSEX ETC, BUT ARE STILL REALLY FRIENDLY & APPROCHABLE & ABLE TO CHAT VIA PHONE/EMAIL. They also have really GREAT LINKS with VARIETY CLUB of GREAT BRITAIN & ARE ABLE TO OFFER FAMILIES ACCESS TO EVENTS & TRIPS FOR DISABLED CHILDREN. THEY HAVE AN ANNUAL TRIP TO WORTHING EACH YEAR ETC....
MY OWN CHILD IS SEVERELY AUTISTIC & NON-VERBAL ETC, EXTREME CHALLENGING BEHAVIOUR & HAS TO BE ON 2:1 AT ALL TIMES(24/7). IF IT HELPS, PLEASE EMAIL BACK OR CHECK OUT THE FOLLWING WEBSITE:www.aldershotspecialneedsgroup.hampshire.co.uk, you can email them at: specialneeds.aldershotgarrison@googlemail.com
MANY THANKS,

Hi all :)
Thanks for that information, guys, I shall pass it on.
For anyone in the Tunbridge Wells area, we have a TAPS support group meeting on Thursday at 7.30, at St Pauls school in Rusthall. Parents/carers of children with ASD (whether diagnosed or not), or anyone with an interst in autism, is welcome. Tea and biscuits, too :)

Are you looking for support in your area? Do you have a carer's group to recommend?
