Hi everyone
The Parent Support Project that Zoe mentioned in her post above has just come to an end. You might be interested in reading our evaluation report on the project which we hope is a useful resource for parents thinking about getting involved in local campaigning and working in partnership constructively with professionals.
Some more exciting news about local campaigning - the NAS is launching a new Autism Action Network to support local autism support groups to campaign locally. For more information visit www.nas.org.uk
I would be really interested in hearing from others who are involved in campaigning to improve autism services and would like to share their experiences.
Mariana

I am part of the Oldham Education Campaign Consortium, which is one of the 10 projects supported by TreeHouse through their Parent Support Project.
In Oldham, we are leading on setting up a Parents Forum to get more parents of children with disabilities involved in decision-making relevant to their kids.
We are also working in partnership with the Carers Centre to secure funding for 2 paid posts: Education Advocacy Worker and Parent Participation and Involvement Worker.

I am also involved in a new charity called Bright Futures www.brightfuturesautism.com that has been set up to support research into autism interventions that have a long term impact upon quality of life (i.e., they are remediatory rather than compensatory).
Am interested to hear from others who are involved in local and national campaigning.
