Conservative Party Manifesto

Received an e-mail re this manifesto and followed the link:

http://www.treehouse.org.uk/tell-autism/news/treehouse-concerned-conservatives%E2%80%99-drive-towards-more-discipline-schools

This manifesto includes this statement:

"The manifesto states that “We (the Conservatives) will make it easier for
teachers to use reasonable force to deal with violent incidents and remove
disruptive pupils from the classroom without fear of legal action”"

I dont know about anyone else, but I am horrified at the very thought of this.   I mean what one person deems a "violent incident" and "reasonable force" is probably completely different from another person.

Childline will be run off their feet with kids complaining about teachers laying their hands on them .... schools are drumming into our children at present that no-one has a right to lay a finger on them .... how are they going to justify "reasonable force"?

Oops, this is turning into a rant and I havent even addressed the comment about bias towards inclusion in mainstream schools and the hint that they prefer to stop the closure of special schools which looks to me to be a return to putting any child who is "different" into a special school, although I could be misinterpreting this.

What are your thoughts?

Scary, isn't it!

As a former teacher, I know how difficult it is to manage disruptive pupils. However, I don't think this is the way forward.

I also know that many children with ASD and other difficulties are being labelled as disruptive and excluded due to their 'behaviour'. We need to address these difficulties and concerns rather than just remove children from the classroom.

I also saw an article from the NAS about a 'loophole' regarding the education of sick or excluded children. I've put a link below:

Well Sara

All I can say is .... words fail me!

We seem to be going backwards instead of forward ..... and that brick wall we keep hitting our head off is getting thicker and thicker!!

I wonder if they have agreed this with the teaching unions? I can't imagine they would be queueing up to ask their members to intervene in violent incidents.

I got a lot of comments about this on my Facebook profile. Not sure if you'll be able to see them by clicking this link?
