Mother fears for autistic daughter's safety due to self harm

I felt very saddened by that story, especially this part:
"I've been told she's very rare and I feel they just don't know what to do with her.
“Somebody somewhere must have an incline of what to do and what tests to do and what investigations to do."
Self-harm is common in people who are not on the spectrum, and surely there are approaches for treatment which can be adapted for this very special situation - I hope they find the help they need, in time to stop April from harming herself further, and more seriously. : (

Have just watched the lunchtime news and saw this report about April Bremner, a young autistic girl who is doing some severe harm to herself by beating herself up.
