Hi Nicky,
I think this is so interesting - even now one of the first things that people say to me is 'you work with people who have autism - like Rainman, right?' - even though that film must be nearly 20 years old!
On a slight tangent, but thought it might mention it now, BBC 3 are showing a programme tomorrow night called 'The Autistic Me', as part of their 'The Adult Season' - you can see a trailer for it here:http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00m5jb4. It's being shown at 9pm tomorrow evening and looks really interesting.
If anyone catches it, it's be great to hear your thoughts.

Great article, Nicky! I have shared it on Facebook & Twitter.
Anna, I'm glad you mentioned The Autistic Me show - I had forgotten about it and want to be sure to remind people tomorrow.

Hi all
I found this article on the BBC website - it's about the portrayal of Autism in film:
'Autistic impressions'
It's really interesting that films which portray a realistic view of life with autism don't generally make it into the mainstream. I guess it's always the more extreme portrayals which will interest the general population.
What are your views, and have you come accross a film or programme which you feel depicts autism in a more realistic way?
