Hi Jet! We're glad you've joined us!
There are so many things that we all share in common despite our location, and the beautiful thing is that the internet can bring us together from all corners of the world. I hope you'll make yourself at home and feel welcome to join in the discussions!
There's another American around here somewhere, though she's relocated to the UK. Her name is Luanne but she goes by the name Ikbmau32 - she may be able to lend a hand with some US-specific topics, though I'm sure education and access to financial help varies a lot even just from state to state! You can find her introduction here. I know that Leanne also has two American children (actually they are British I think but spent some time in the States) so that might be another person to chat with, though I don't think she's got much experience of America or the system there (correct me if I'm wrong Leanne!). She recently did one of our monthly member Q&A's which you can find here.
If anyone else remembers any Americans around here, do feel welcome to leave a comment.
I would also like to know whereabout you come from in the States! I'm a Texan myself. : )

For a minute I thought you had forgotten that you were American yourself, but you reprieved yourself in the last sentence.

Hi Jet,
I have 4 children, 2 of which are my step-sons and are on the spectrum. My eldest step-son is Johnathon and he is almost 15, he has Aspergers.
The teenage years are really difficult and children can be so cruel , it is hard enough for NT children but when you through autism into the mix it just makes things even harder,
We used to do an awful lot of social role plays with Johnathon at home, to deal with difficult situations at school.
Recently he seems to be coping with school much better as he has joined a group of about 6 kids who I think are actually quite similar to him.. of course now we are entering into the 'girls phase' and that is even worse lol
Until almost 4 years ago both boys were living in Longmont ,Colorado. We were all meant to emigrate there but there was a slight change of plan and we are in the UK now.. much to my husbands disappointment :)

New York - how lovely, it's a really beautiful state (outside of the city!).
I know the East Coast is 5 hours behind us but it often seems far closer than my family in Texas, who are 6 hours behind. Somehow that 1 hour makes a lot of difference and makes Texas seem further away...
Jet, I wonder if you might be able to post in regular case rather than all upper case? I'm not sure about the others but I find it difficult to read all caps. : (

HI MY NAME IS JET, I HAVE A 13 YEAR OLD SON WHO HAS AUTISM AND THERE IS NOT MUCH SUPPORT OVER HERE I FOUND THIS SITE THROUGH ONE OF MY FRIENDS IN THE UK AND I THINK ITS GREAT. YOU GUYS HAVE ALOT OF SUPPORT AND VALUABLE INFORMATION ON HAND. AND ALOT OF RESOURCES AT YOUR FINGER TIPS.
OVER HERE THERE IS NOT ALOT OF INFORMATION ABOUT AUTISM AND I HAD A HARD FIGHT GETTING MY SON DIAGONSIED, ONE OF THE MAIN THINGS THAT HELPED ME IS I HAD BEEN TO COLLEGE OVER THERE AND DONE A COURSE IN SPECIAL NEEDS AND KNEW WHAT I WAS ON ABOUT AND HAD A FAIR IDEA OF WHAT I WAS LOOKING AT. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. AND SUPPORTING EACH OTHER.
