World Cup 2010

Any football fans here in the community?

I watched the England vs. USA game on Saturday. Kind of anti-climactic after all the buildup, eh!

Hopefully I can catch some of the other games here and there.

Hi Elena

Not me .... I hate football with a passion!! Fortunately neither of my boys are into football, although my oldest is watching the matches on the TV which is very unusual for him.

My ex-husband was a football fanatic and would watch any football game, not just the team he supported .... in fact he would watch any sporting activity .... cricket (BORING), golf (YAWN) etc, etc.

Having said that, if Scotland had got through, I probably would have watched their games .... but I doubt if my patriotism is going to be tested any time soon!! LOL!!

Hi Elena,

I really get into the world cups...we have a big flag that the kids put up in the front room every time england play! Young muscley men in shorts....of course I watch it!! Not really I do like football...I know what the off-side rule is and everything! (get me!!)

Josie. there is a Scotish man playing for USA...(not sure how they are linked!) he mentioned he was playing for both so may be a good reason to support them this time round?!

That didnt sound right...he isnt playing for both but if your parents are born in one country and you in another, I think you can play for either??? something like that, anyway he said he was Scottish !!

Hello all,

I am not the average football fan - more of the 'statto' or 'motty' variety! I am very analytical of the game. It is fun to play, although if I try and use my left foot, I will probably be in danger of falling over! The first football team I fell for was the Brazil team of 1982 (I remember being seriously 'gutted' when they went out to Italy that year - although that was as good a game as I have ever seen!). Although Brazil do not play quite the same way as they used to, it still takes me back to those days as a child. I like Kaka and co. and I think they have the best chance of going all the way this time. The good thing with this World Cup is that it is quite evenly matched between the better teams - should be lots of drama in the knockout rounds.

Every four years, I become an armchair gambler. I put on lots of 50p bets + covering bets etc. - I usually end up around evens at the end of the tournament. Slightly behind at the moment - partly because the African teams are doing worse than I predicted - maybe the pressure of it being on 'home turf' is getting to them?

Can't wait for tomorrow though - Ivory Coast vs. Portugal and Brazil vs. North Korea (could be interesting + when this World Cup starts livening up a bit).

Hi Damian,

that made me laugh! I think we should have done a sweep stake on here for the world cup...anyone think there is still time and how we could do it?!

I'm a huge footy fan, since having kids we're in most Saturday nights and we always sit down to watch match of the day. I'm a Spurs fan and Glenn is a Chelsea fan but when its England we unite! We too put up the England flag on the living room window although it went down pretty quickly after the USA game!

Josie- if you want to watch the semi-Scottish lad, he was born in Aberdeen to a Scottish dad & English mum but was brought up in the states from an early age so has chose to play for them.

I thought Brazil would spark this world cup into action - 2-1, all cracking goals, good skills, great passionate defending from the North Koreans - best match of the World Cup so far by a long way (well worth watching the highlights tonight!).

I thought the Portugal & Ivory Coast game would have been better, Ronaldo's diving was embarassing!!

I've been dipping into the games in the evenings, I just wish I had more time to watch!

Hello Tracy,

Yes - Ronaldo is a bit of a 'drama queen'. What about Spain losing today!!! Looks like we may get a Spain vs. Brazil match in the second round (mark that one out!).
