Welcome to our new Community Champion!
I'm very happy to announce that amberlight has agreed to become a Community Champion for Talk about Autism. You may have seen her in the Member Q&A section back in June, or just around the discussions handing out some terrific advice and experience.
Our Community Champions team is here to help make sure that we're reaching out and answering everyone's questions, pointing people to the right place, and keeping this a healthy and welcoming place to be. They're here to help, so do feel welcome to ask them for assistance.
To find out who the rest of our Champions are, and how to become one yourself, visit the Community Champions discussion.
July Member Q&A
For our July Monthly Q&A we are speaking with Josie Barnshaw. Come ask Josie a question or just catch up on the Q&A here: http://www.talkaboutautism.org.uk/discussion-forums/general-discussion/member-qas/5515

New discussion - Event Reviews
Don't worry, I won't be notifying you every time we have a new discussion. But I think this one is newsworthy!
We now have an area where you can drop by and leave us a review of an event which you've attended. Or alternatively you can request that someone review an event.
Event Reviews - been to an event and have information to share?

Two new discussions (and rather exciting I think!): Debate Corner & Community Opinions
We have two new discussions which are going to really be great so I wanted to mention them here in our news section.
Debate Corner: If you fancy a good debate, come and see us!
Community Opinions: If debating isn't quite your thing, come share your opinions on a variety of topics! No debates allowed here... : )

Two Volunteers Needed
We are currently recruiting two volunteers to help look after the new Community Opinions discussion.
Description:
You will work together as a team to recognise that a topic has run its course and highlight a new topic for us, and to just generally keep things moving in the Community Opinions discussion. The two of you would need to liaise together about what topics to choose, and people can suggest topics to you.
If this is of interest to you, please visit the Community Opinions discussion and leave a comment. Or alternatively, email me at elena@talkaboutautism.org.uk

Volunteers Welcome!
We have now set aside a whole page to list all of our volunteer opportunities. You can see it in the "Community" menu on the left-hand side of your screen. Or you can click here: Volunteers Welcome!
Working Life
From time-to-time you've been having conversations about jobs, job-related issues, interviews, and topics along this line. So we thought we would set aside an area of the discussion forum especially for your Working Life. Let's use this area to post job opportunities, to let others know you are looking for a job, to discuss skills training, interviews, tips, advice - and anything else you think of!
You can see this on the Discussion forums page, toward the very bottom. Or you can click here: Working Life

Hi
Im looking for information regarding services for my 27yr old son , im in the Glasgow area , i contacted the Autism Resource Centre back in January . i know it was moving to the Bridgeton area from Ruchill , but have heard nothing regarding any services my son could use ..............except for meeting up every second Tuesday at Glasgow central Station, or the walking group , i think that is suppose to take place once a month ? i understood they had a film night once a month & also art., drama classes ? i was told there was a drop in centre ??????????? my son is getting a community care assessment done at the moment & i am getting a carers assessment done also , iv had a bit of bother getting these done (i will go into more detail next post) but hope to recieve services when completed (well i hope ) i know funding is tight ..............but this is a joke . is there anything going on in the Glasgow area for ASD adults with learning difficulties ? because no-one is willing to fill me in when i ask , dont know how the whole get up works , because i never ever asked for any help from Social Services even though my son is registered disabled .............i hate the saying "oh he must have slipped through the net " NOOOOOOOOOOOOO , there was never ever any net there in the first place ! . HELP..........HELP...........HELP.........HELP............

Hi again Linda
I am actually taking my son to the Bridgeton office tomorrow morning as they have just received funding at the last minute for an outdoor five day trip for the kids who are now too old for the summer playscheme (which Tom is being 15). I will have a chat with them re what is available for your son and other adults and pop back in here with the info.
Is there any particular kind of support that would suit your son? What are his interests?
Have you never tried going through Social Services? I actually did go to my local Social Work Dept when my son was about 10 or 11 and it was probably the best thing I ever did as far as getting some help. It was social services who arranged the four hours of respite I get on a Thursday evening (that's through the Strathclyde Autism Society which is also based in the same unit as the ARC). This same service provided the Summer Playscheme when he was young enough to take part and this holiday that he is going on tomorrow. They also arranged some other interventions which were very useful when he was younger.
I will post again tomorrow when I have found out more info for you.

Hi Josie
I did go to the social work way back in January of this year & this is my son now being assessed for services , my son at the moment is recieving no services , the reason for contacting ARC & social work was because of poor health & finding it more hard to cope without a break , any help would have been welcomed way back in January when i approached them , im now more stressed than when i first contacted them because of the length of time this has took for assessment since January . i know there is a film night once a month at the ARC but dont know when ? my son loves film , i have a house full of video's & dvd's . i feel there is a communication problem & the lack of it is not on my part ! . iv been banging my head off a brick wall from January , God help any elderly carers looking after their son's or daughters if they take ill or need help , i think 7 month's waiting , is a terrible amount of time to take even if you are not classed priority ! "maladministration comes to mind " i have contacted Nicola Sturgeon at Scottish Parliament regarding waiting times & funding for ASD adults , as for funding just becoming available for your son's outdoor five day trip you might be interested in reading this & joining .........http://www.fsdc.org.uk/how-can-you-help
