The Gold Challenge Survey - deadline 21 August at 5PM

I got some information today from TreeHouse which I wanted to be sure and pass on.

Reputable events agency Limelight Sports has set up a brand new and unique challenge event.  TreeHouse is considering signing up to a charity package and would really like to hear your thoughts on the event before doing so. So, they've set up a quick survey to get some feedback from the members of Talk about Autism.

The survey can be found on the link below. It has 9 questions and takes about five minutes to complete. Please note that the survey will close on Saturday 21 August at 5pm.

For those members who don't yet know, TreeHouse is the autism education charity which originally set up the Talk about Autism community.

Further information about The Gold Challenge:

The Gold Challenge is a chance to test your skills in 5, 10, 20 or 30 different Olympic and/or Paralympic sports and raise money for charity.  A few examples of the exciting activities that you could take part in include swimming, sailing, judo, horse-riding and archery.

There are 26 sports to choose from and Limelight is associated with the National Governing Bodies (NGBs) who represent each of these sports.  Any sport that an individual takes part in will be run from a centre that is affiliated with its NGB.

This isn’t a one day challenge event, each sport takes three hours to complete and you are not allowed to complete more than one sport in a day.  For example, if you chose the five challenges option, then you would need to complete 15 hours of sessions, which would take at least five days.  This is an event that has been designed to really challenge its participants but in a fun way!

There is no registration fee to sign up to The Gold Challenge but participants will pay the centres to take part in any sports.  The average cost of completing each sport will be between £5 and £10, with the most expensive sports such as sailing and horse riding costing just £15.  In addition, participants will raise funds for their chosen charity through sponsorship or any other means that they choose.

All activities will be offered nationally and will be fully inclusive for individuals with disabilities.  There will also be the option for families and under 16s to take part.

Do let me know if you have any questions about the survey. Seemed to work ok for me.

Wow...this looks excellent.

I have completed the survey but have a couple of concerns (as usual).

I don't know where each activity takes place so there may be hidden/additional costs for travel and accommodation. As an example, if I was to do the sailing, would I be able to attend a centre in Plymouth or would I have to travel to specific centre in another part of the country?

Also, my usual worry......will I be able to set up activities by email, or will I have to use the telephone? If it's the latter then I will not be able to take part :(

Great points, Sara. And I should have known you of all people would love a challenge like this!

Lol Elena.

I've been looking for some inspiration for my next challenge :)

Hi Sara

I work in the fundraising team at TreeHouse and really liked the sound of this challenge too, which is why we thought it was worth doing a survey to hear all your thoughts on it. Thank you very much for taking the time to complete the survey - it is really useful to get the opinions of families.

You wanted to know about the locations of all the events. unfortunately, this is something that is being organised by Limelight Sports and the National Governing Bodies.  The Gold Challenge hasn't been launched yet (it is due to at the end of September) so the full details on their website won't be available until then.  What I do know is that all the sports will be offered around the country but exact locations will vary from sport to sport.  So they expect that generally participants will have good access to most, if not all, the sports but this is something that you would need to bear in mind when choosing the sports.  I'm sorry that this isn't a complete answer at this stage but if we do decide to become a charity partner, then all this information would be available before signing up.

In terms of booking up to take part in a sport, I have been advised that by phone is probably easier but that some sports will probably accept enquiries by email too.  This would probably depend on your local centre and how they prefer to do things.  It might be worth having a look at some of the National Governing Body websites for sports that you are interested in and see how your local centre would work.

I hope this helps and thanks again for taking the time to complete the survey.

Best wishes

Lisa
