As always, it all comes back to a lack of training.
When are people going to realise that they need specialist autism training?

Why we are failing children with autism
We are failing children with autism and they are crying out for more support, a new report suggests...

letter in metro 22 july, 2010.
thank you for publishing the piece about the lack of support autism sufferers and their families receive (metro, wed).
it was tremendously sad but needs to be said.
my older brother has severe autism and will need personal care for the rest of his life.
my parents look after him but the local council and various support groups are inadequate at best.
one of the main problems is a lack of training. there is a huge skills shortage in the social care sector; staff are paid low wages and often move on.
from what i have experienced, authorities are far more concerned with budgets and ticking boxes than helping the families involved.
this is not the way to provide for autistic people and their families.
thank you for making millions of people aware of the difficulties some families face in making sure their child has their basic human rights provided for
name and address supplied.
